La Loma Neighborhood Garage Sale!

When: Saturday, May 21, 2011

8am – 2pm

Where: Your house! (or your neighbor’s!)

What: We’re starting something new in the neighborhood! Do you want to have a garage sale, but don’t want to do the advertising? Perhaps you’re not sure if you have “enough stuff.” Now you don’t have to! We’re organizing a one day sale so that neighbors can share in the advertising and capitalize on everyone else’s sale. It is FREE and OPTIONAL to be involved. If you want your sale to be on the published list, send your name, address, and specialty items that will be in your sale to LLNAgaragesale@gmail.com by May 1, 2011.  Please include a phone number in case we need to contact you. This number will not be published.

Here is a list of those who have already signed up along with their special items up for sale:

1. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: Take your recycles to one of our advertisers, Modesto Junk Company,  or give them to someone who recycles.
2. Lighten Up: Use energy efficient light bulbs to light up your home!
3. One click for man, one giant leap for the planet: Adjust your thermostat up one degree in the summer and down one degree in the winter to drastically reduce emissions to our environment.
4. Flip that switch: Turn off electric devices, lights, and appliances when you are not using them.
5. Get dirty and lend a hand: April 2^nd we have a neighborhood wide cleanup to allow you to lend a hand for your neighborhood, to learn more click here.
6. Take your foot off the gas! Carpooling and using public transportation reduced emissions and is cost effective.
7. Out with the old, in with the new! Replace old appliances with energy efficient ones. There are many to choose from and they are not too pricey.
8. Go local!! Famers market and independent stores are less likely to ship produces or use harmful pesticides. You use less gas shopping locally too!
9. Organic is your friend. Don’t be afraid to try organic products. They taste, feel, and smell the same, but they are natural instead of processed. Price differences are minimal, but the nutritional benefits are massive.
10. And this little baggie went to the market… Bring your own bags to the market! An average American family acquires 60 bags per week and rarely reuses them. Try purchasing the reusable ones offered by most markets and help save the planet one bag at a time!

We will be meeting at La Loma Jr. High (Encina Ave) to begin our day! This is a family clean up day and we will sign off hours for volunteering your time. It’s your neighborhood, get involved!

The Modesto Police Department takes pride in keeping our citizens informed about crime trends in the City. Neighborhood watch groups and communication between the police personnel and city residents allows public safety concerns to be addressed. Vital information provided by citizens allows patrol officers and specialized police units to address “neighborhood specific” crime problems.

National Night Out

is August 3^rd, this Tuesday

What a great night out with your friends, families, and neighbors right on your own block! It is a great opportunity to meet your new neighbors and to drive crime out of your neighborhood!

Most of you are familiar with National Night Out every year and are aware that La Loma Neighborhood’s block party count has always put Modesto at the TOP! But this year, that may just not happen considering only TWO of the regular hosts have registered with the City of Modesto in our neighborhood!!

First off, what is National Night Out?

It is just like is sounds, it is a night out with your friends, families, and neighbors right on your own block! It is a great opportunity to meet your new neighbors and to drive crime out of your neighborhood!

How can I be involved?

All you have to do is “host” the party meaning pass out flyers asking your neighbors to help you out too! It is as easy as just having a potluck, desert night, and so forth! Knock on your next door neighbor’s door and see if they want to help you host it! Email me back if you want to host the party for your block! It is just a couple hours on a Tuesday night, August 3^rd from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.!! And a great time to get to know your neighbors! The best way to combat crime is to work together
